Who isn’t tire of these old chairs? They’re uncomfortable, they’re loud and they break if you look at them cross eyed. Flexible seating has proven to be successful in elementary classrooms across the world, there is usually just one main problem. Money. Convincing unwilling admin aside, many of us just don’t have the funds available to implement many flexible seating options. This is where creativity and a good eye for deals comes in to play!

Last August I happened to be wandering around Walmart’s garden center when these cushions caught my eye. They were marked down to as low as $1! I couldn’t believe it! Like a crazy person I started loading my cart and took to Instagram to share my find. In total I spent less than $22 on all the cushions shown above (including the laundry basket I believe). I figured either they’d be a hit in my classroom or they would look great on my back deck, win win!

My hunch was right! My students LOVE them! While most of the other items in my classroom have been showing their wear and tear these cushions are holding up fantastically. This picture was taken in March, well into the school year and I must say that the pillows still look as good as new.
If you are looking for simple and cheap ways to implement flexible seating in your classroom I highly suggest you keep an eye out for these at the end of the season!
